The origin

The story of Ambre Marine

The most commonly used raw material for these scents is chalcone, a synthetic substance discovered in 1951 by Pfizer scientists. Initially sought for its potential as a food additive to mimic watermelon flavor, chalcone was found to resemble sea spray due to its structure akin to pheromones from certain algae. In crystal form, chalcone has a strong odor, but when diluted, it releases a distinctive iodine-like scent.

Over time, other synthetic materials like melanol and floralozone, as well as natural ingredients such as lotus flowers, blue cypress, and seaweed, have been used to achieve these marine aromas. Natural materials tend to soften the pure marine scent with floral or green notes.
